CRISES - Will be handled immediately.
NON-CRISES - May entail a brief waiting period of 1-2 weeks.
APPOINTMENTS - If the student is willing to see a counselor, he/she should make his/her own appointments. However, depending on your degree of involvement as a faculty or staff member, you may phone ahead or accompany the student. Students may call the Center at 765-285-1736 or stop by Lucina Hall, Room 320 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
COUNSELING - During a student's first visit to the Counseling Center, there are information forms to complete before the student sees a counselor. An intake counselor then assesses the student's needs in order to determine the ways in which the Center might be able to help. The intake counselor will discuss the appropriate service options with the student. Depending on the student's needs, he/she may participate in one of our many group programs or may be seen in individual counseling sessions. If referred for individual counseling, the student will meet with a counselor on the average of four to six sessions. Other options that may be considered at intake might be referral to another on-campus or community-based agency. It is also feasible that the student may leave the initial appointment feeling able to handle the problem on his/her own.
NOTE that all information shared with Counseling Center staff by a student will be kept confidential except when the student poses a danger to him/herself, poses a danger to someone else, or when the abuse of a minor is involved.
