Major Focus Areas
- Interns must choose an Area of Focus each semester in order to have a more in-depth clinical experience with a particular set of client issues or approaches to psychotherapy. The intern could choose an area of clinical focus but have a different outreach team and/or group therapy focus or they could choose a focus in clinical work that would be the same in group and outreach. Interns are required to choose two outreach teams and must remain on those teams for the year but could have up to two areas of clinical focus –one each semester for their clinical work.
- As an example, an intern might choose grief and loss work as a clinical focus and work with 3-5 clients with those issues. They might also serve on the Trauma/Suicide/Grief Team and do a grief group or they might choose grief and loss as an area of clinical focus, serve on the Career Team and do a Women’s Empowerment Group. Areas of clinical focus could continue for a semester or for the entire year.
