When joining a Greek organization you can expect to contribute to a philanthropic or service organization.
What exactly is a philanthropy?
The term philanthropy means the act of donating money, goods, services, time and/or effort to support a charity, cause or foundation, with no financial or material reward to the donor. In a more general sense, philanthropy may encompass any altruistic activity intended to promote good or improve human quality of life.
Greek organizations use the term 'philanthropy' for many of their events and programs where they are raising money and goods to donate and awareness with no financial or material reward to themselves.

Greeks save Businesses money in 2008!
Each year the Independent Sector calculates the value of a volunteer hour based on the average hourly earnings of all production and nonsupervisory workers on private non-farm payrolls. In 2008, an hour of volunteer work was valued at $20.25. Therefore the Ball State Greek community contributed $185,429.25 to the Muncie community and surrounding area in 2008.
Individual Chapter Contributions
Each semester the Greek community publishes a Semester Report that summarizes how much each organization gives time and money to others.
