This class is for emerging IFC, Panhellenic and NPHC fraternity and sorority members who want to take a leadership position in their chapter or a governing council or are in the first semester of holding a leadership position. Through activities, reading assignments, reflection journals and class discussions, students enhance their ability to be an effective individual and leader in the Greek community. Students read two great leadership books: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey and Whale Done! by Ken Blanchard. You will walk away from this class having learned skills and practices that will benefit you during your collegiate years and beyond!
Course Objectives:
- To understand the history of Greek organizations and their role on 21st century campus
- To grow and develop as individuals and Greek leaders
- To gain applicable skills, knowledge and tools to create positive change within the Greek community
- To be empowered to and develop skills to confront behavior inconsistent with organizational values and mission
- To identify strengths and weaknesses within his/her own personal chapter and the Greek community
- To have fun
Bonus: this 2 hour class counts towards the Leadership Studies Minor
