Greek Leadership Class for Officers

This course is for chapter presidents and IFC, Panhellenic and NPHC executive board officers during the spring 2010 semester. Through activities, reading assignments, reflection journals and class discussions, students will enhance their ability to be an effective individual and leader in the Greek community. In addition, they will develop an understanding of how to have more effective conversations and positive relationships with their peers.

Students read two great leadership books: Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss what Matters Most by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, Sheila Heen & Roger Fisher and Whale Done! by Ken Blanchard. You will walk away from this class having learned to skills and practices that will make you a better president, council officer or leader!

Course Objectives:

  • To understand the history of Greek organizations and their role on 21st century campus 
  • To develop a sense of community amongst Greek leaders and strengthen relationships 
  • To understand the partnerships between the host campus, national headquarters and advisors and alumni, chapters and Greek councils 
  • To identify personal and organizational values and evaluate their behavioral alignment with those values 
  • To be empowered to and develop skills to confront behavior inconsistent with organizational values and mission 
  • To understand different leadership styles and identify ways to work with people who have different styles 
  • To be able to implement positive change within the Greek chapters and councils at Ball State 
  •  To have fun

Bonus: this 2 hour class counts towards the Leadership Studies Minor
