If you are looking to join an African-American or Latino/a fraternity or sorority and are wondering when to join an organization on campus, they require at least 12 hours of credit hours before you are to join. Therefore, most prefer members who are sophomores at Ball State University. It is OK to seek information about the organization before you are a sophomore and attend Interest meetings. If you are wanting more information, we encourage you to research the organizations online or by attending their week of events.
Before the Intake process each organization has a week of events during the academic year that highlights during their organization. During the week of events each organization has an Interest meeting. At the Interest meeting African-American and Latino/a fraternities and sororities hold Interest meetings in which they discuss their national and chapter’s history, philanthropy and requirements to become a member. For more information on when each group will be holding interest meetings, contact the
Office of Student Life at 765-285-2621.
Intake is the process of membership selection used by African-American and Latino/a fraternities and sororities belonging to the
National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
The Intake process is similar for each organization. All groups require that selected members have a certain number of academic credit and community service hours as well as certain grade point averages. However, the length of the process is different, and range from three days to four weeks. For more information, please contact the individual organization or check the individual organizations’ Web site.
