HIV

Infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, or AIDS.  AIDS is a serious disease for which there is no cure.  Many people with AIDS die from the disease.  People who use intravenous drugs and men who have sex with other men are known to have a higher risk of AIDS, but increasingly we are seeing AIDS in people with no identifiable risk factors.  For that reason, the CDC now recommends that all Americans be tested regularly for HIV.

As of the end of 2009 there were 7807 men and 1838 women in Indiana with HIV/AIDS.  (report)

For more information about HIV/AIDS, please see the CDC website or thebody.com
