International Living-Learning Community

The International Living-Learning Community is designed for American students interested in overseas study and travel and learning more about world cultures, and international students who want to live with American students and learn more about the American culture. This community encourages intercultural understanding by attempting to place students in rooms with students from other countries.

Partners: This living-learning community will work closely with the Rinker Center for International Programs, Academic Advising, the Learning Center, the Counseling Center, and other campus departments to foster a strong support network for students studying in the United States or planning to study in other countries.

Classes:

  • ENG 103 - English Composition 1, 3 credit hours
  • MAT 125 - Mathematics and Its Applications, 3 credit hours
  • PHIL 100 - Introduction to Philosophy, 3 credit hours

Programming: Residents in the International Living-Learning Community are welcome to participate in the International Partner Program. The International Partner Program is a volunteer-based program, created as an opportunity for both international and American students to explore the many different cultures each person brings to the living-learning community and for non-native English speakers to practice the host language.

This program is intended for students to meet someone new and learn about the other person’s culture and customs. The partnership is based and paired on the information given when filling out the International Partner Program application. Once applications are submitted, an international student will be paired with a U.S. student. (Note: Please use Internet Explorer when filling out the application.)

We ask that students dedicate one hour a week to meet with their partner to benefit most from the program. Partners will determine together when it will be most convenient for them to meet each week. Additionally, there will be a training workshop on Sunday, August 22 after the International and Languages Community Kickoff Event to learn more about the program, how to sign up, and talk about expectations. We encourage all potential partners to attend this training. Students will meet their partners on Thursday, September 9 in the Mysch/Hurst first floor lobby for energizers and ice breakers. If you have concerns or questions before or after you are paired with a partner, please contact us at myschhurst2@bsu.edu.

Location: Students in this program will live in Studebaker East when the building re-opens in Fall 2012.
