History

Howick/Williams was named for two men who were involved with Ball State during its early history.

Harry Howick was the dean of men and a professor of physics at Ball State from 1921 to 1953. A man of character and high ideals, he gave much to the college and to the young men with whom he was associated in campus life and fraternities.

Paul B. Williams was the head of the physical education department from 1921 to 1958 and the coach of the Ball State Cardinals football team in 1924-25. A sportsman and a gentleman, he brought the college physical education department two fine attributes: a keen interest in competitive sports and a personal interest in the benefits of a good physical education program for all students.
