Speaker Panels

Spectrum exists to provide an anonymous, safe, and friendly place for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students and their allies to socialize and get information. The group provides social support to create a comfortable, confidential, and accepting atmosphere for its members. Spectrum sponsors Spring Week in April and P.R.O.U.D. Month October, in addition to organizing speaker panels to raise awareness on campus and in the community.

Speaker Panels

Speaker Panels are a great way to alert and educate Ball State students and faculty about many factors in the GLBTSA community. For those of you who have not had the privilege of experiencing a speaker panel, it is really a simple concept. A faculty member at Ball State or an event coordinator in the Muncie Community requests a speaker panel when he or she wishes to inform a particular class or group of people about the GLBTSA community. This person gets a hold of the speaker panel coordinator, Spectrum Vice President Jaime Whitaker and they set up a place and time for the panel to take place. A few members of the speaker panel committee then get together and speak to the class about a very wide range of GLBT related issues. The session begins with each panel member telling his or her coming out story (yes, even straight allies have coming out stories,) then that is followed by a question and answer session.
