Fox 59 morning news in Indianapolis has a new segment, "Mondays with Kyla," hosted by Kyla Williamson, a 2003 Ball State graduate. But do you know how this mother of one, working in radio sales, ended up on TV?

After seeing an ad for a contest to be a morning local traffic reporter on Fox 59, Williamson decided to enter…and won! After winning the hearts of Indianapolis viewers and WXIN-TV management alike, she walked away with a three-month television contract and a spot on the Fox 59 morning show as the local traffic reporter.

Williamson says juggling motherhood and two jobs for three months was a bit of a challenge—but she's glad she did it.

"It was hard taking care of my 4-month-old baby, Ava, delivering traffic reports each morning (which I'd never done before) to tens of thousands of people who depend on that information; and then heading over to Radio One, where I work in the sales department, but I persevered and got through it."

At Ball State, Williamson majored in telecommunications and was fortunate to have faculty like Nancy Carlson and Joe Misiewicz, who helped prepare her for a career in communications.

Williamson felt like she needed to make the most of this television opportunity, having always wanted to go into broadcasting—and her perseverance paid off.

A few months after the contest ended, Fox 59 offered Williamson a part-time job as a feature reporter. She's now excited about the chance to further her broadcasting career, but notes that she will continue to be a mom to Ava, work at Radio One, and of course—continue juggling.
