Patricia Schaefer

Patricia Schaefer joined the Foundation Board in 2006

Schaefer, one of the Foundation's newest board members, graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in music. She continued her education in Illinois to receive her Master's of Arts degree in musicology from the University of Illinois. Not knowing exactly what she would do with her degrees, in 1959, while working at the Columbus Public Library in Ohio, she was offered a job to head the audio visual department of the Muncie Public Library. She then spent four summers at the University of Michigan earning her Master's of Library Science degree. This led to her succeeding to the position of assistant director in 1981, and Director in 1986.

While she retired in 1995, Schaefer remains very active in the Muncie community. She serves on the boards of Indiana Tech and the Franklin Electric Company and Foundation. Some of her other civic and professional work include involvement in the Wapehani Co. Girl Scouts U.S.A., Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, American Red Cross, Hoosier Heartland Chapter, Muncie YWCA, Advisory Council of the College of Fine Arts at Ball State University, and the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Schaefer is noted in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. In 1995, Schaefer was presented with a Sagamore of the Wabash award, Indiana's highest honor, by Governor Evan Bayh.
