Immersive learning is an opportunity for students to apply their interdisciplinary work in
Honors College courses to projects or events, either in honors colloquia or through capstone projects such as their senior honors thesis.
We can best illustrate this with an example. Chin-Sook Pak, associate professor of Spanish, has taught an honors colloquium through which students work in the Muncie Spanish-speaking community to promote awareness of access to higher education. Students produce usable materials, such as bilingual DVDs, that facilitate access to important information.
Senior honors students from a variety of majors have collaborated on their projects, such as raising money for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. Events have constituted a significant multidisciplinary learning experience that benefits the community at large and the charity itself.
