As part of the museum’s constant mission to bring a wide range of artworks to the Ball State and Muncie communities, not to mention its own permanent collection, many works of art have been newly obtained in the past several years. Too many, however, have gone quietly unnoticed as they join their appropriate areas in the museum without the ceremonious welcome they deserve. Included will be Old Master and modern prints and drawings; ethnographic art from the Americas, Africa, and Polynesia; and European and American decorative arts. Important sculptures slated for this exhibition are a Qi Dynasty Bodhisattva from China and a Festival Bronze of the Chola Dynasty from India. Outstanding modern paintings by abstract expressionists Perle Fine (1908 – 1988), Norman Bluhm (1921 – 1999), and Chicago Imagist Roger Brown (1941 – 1997) are also included. In this exhibit the new acquisitions will be arranged thematically and displayed with insightful commentaries by BSU professors from various disciplines, including history, classics, and art.
