Internships provide hands-on practical experience for students interested in exploring the museum profession. Internships, for university students, are available for credit or no credit. An internship is a minimum 150 hours per semester and must be completed over the usual course of the semester or summer during the normal business hours of the David Owsley Museum of Art.
BSU students interested in an internship should complete the online volunteer and internship application, and submit a resume, transcript, two professional and/or academic letters of reference with a cover letter stating your museum internship interests as they relate to your career goals. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The internship is paid $7.25 per hour for at least 10 hours per week.
Applications deadlines are as follows:
If the deadline falls on a weekend, please submit application materials on the Friday before. The internship program is competitive. Each student will be contacted in the month following the deadline for applications.
David Owsley Museum of Art at Ball State University internships are a project-based, prearranged, structured learning experience, scheduled within a specific time frame. They should be relevant to both the intern's stated academic and professional goals, and to the museum's needs and interests.
