Meeting Minutes

Ball State University Alumni Association
Michiana Area Alumni Chapter
Board of Directors Meeting
J.C. Rice Educational Services Center
Monday, March 2, 2015

Members Present: Samantha Adamczewski, Jenn Crist, Scott Franko, Gail Jaskowiak, Carol Kosisko, Steve Schafer, Kim Stout, Mia Trimboli, Vince Von Der Vellen, Ron Wiseman, and Bob Woods.

Review of Fall Events:

Wine & Beer Tasting – Samantha Adamczewski chaired the annual Wine & Beer Tasting on Friday, October 17, 2014. Forty-one guests attended. It was a good event; everyone was pleased with food, beer and wine selections. With postage, printing, and door prizes, the cost of the event was $302.58. Sam will chair the 2015 event, but would like a co-chair.

Bus/Shopping Trip – The Bus Shopping Trip to Woodfield Mall was Saturday, November 8, 2014. Jenn Crist and Gail Jaskowiak chaired the event. Only 31 attended. The 37 passenger bus was not held for us. The empty seats on the 47 passenger bus resulted in the outing costing $434.30. A smaller bus will be reserved for 2015 trip on November 14.

It is feared that recipients of the combined outings email are not scrolling down to find out about all the outings if the first one does not appeal to them. So, individual event emails were requested to assist board members in forwarding as appropriate to specific alumni they believe would be interested in a specific event.

Spring/Summer Events:

Casino Night – Discussion was held about holding the event every other year rather than annually, since attendance has declined and Christiana Creek may no longer be available as an inexpensive venue. It was suggested that Casino Night be alternated with a new event such as a Trivia Night.

Summer Golf & Dinner Outing –Kim Stout and Vince Von Der Vellen are planning the outing. They are looking at three courses (Morris Park, Juday Creek, and Bent Oaks), dates, and costs. Athletics has expressed an interest in holding the Cardinal Coaches Caravan (Mark Sandy and most of the head coaches) at the dinner, and have requested dates between mid-May and the end of June. Kim and Vince will work to select a course and date soon. Kim and Carol will work on a survey email that will be sent to Michiana area alumni to assess what factors determine their involvement in an event, and in what types of events they would participate.

Elkhart 4-H Fair Outing – The 4-H Fair outing will be Saturday, July 25, 2015. This year’s concert will be Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Carol will confirm this year’s prices with Kristy Ambrosen and will request the Charlie Cardinal suit.

Alumni Council & Alumni Association Reports:

Carol reported that a unification of the Advancement units with the BSU Foundation was announced to the Alumni Council meeting, and to the staff the following Wednesday. The BSUAA’s $300,000 matching gift grant to the Cardinal Commitment Campaign was successful in raising over $1.9 million of the campaign goal from alumni.
Possible New Events:

Alumni will be asked for their new event ideas in the Eventbrite survey.

Growing the Chapter Scholarship:

The discussion was tabled until the next meeting so all members of the Scholarship committee can be involved.

Other Business:

Granger’s Kayzie Priebe won the Miss Ball State title on January 17, 2015; the second Miss Ball State in a row from the Michiana area. Kayzie will be asked to accompany Charlie Cardinal at the 4-H Fair Outing.

Next Meeting – The next meeting will take place on Monday, June 8, at 6:00 p.m., at Bob Woods’ office.
