Cardinal Football Alliance Society
Board Meeting
Saturday, July 31, 2010

Present: Brent Baldwin, Ron Duncan, Tracy Hendricks, Marc Martin, Stan Parrish, David Scheller, Eric Scherrer, Ed Shipley, and Nick Tabacca.

President Marc Martin called the meeting to order at 10:10 a.m.

PRESIDENT'S OPENING REMARKS

Marc Martin opened the meeting by thanking those in attendance and offering his willingness to accept suggestions on how to make the CFA even better.  He also indicated he would like to see the CFA/Senior Dinner return in future years.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Ron Duncan to approve the minutes from the November 22, 2009, Board meeting as distributed.  The motion was seconded by Brent Baldwin and passed.

CFA/FOOTBALL LETTERMEN GOLF AND DINNER OUTING

Ed Shipley reported that there are 84 players signed up for golf, which is 1 more than the previous year, and 7 were signed up for dinner only.  Lunch will be served in the gazebo during registration at noon with a shot-gun start at 1:00 p.m. and dinner is in the ballroom following the outing.

Ed also reported that the outing has grown significantly since it began.  He also reported the Saturday date, rather than Friday as it was in previous years, didn’t result in significantly more lettermen attending.

Dave Scheller made a motion to hold the next CFA/Ray Louthen Memorial Football Lettermen Golf and Dinner Outing on Friday, July 22, 2011.  The motion was seconded by Brent Baldwin and passed.

A suggestion was made by Brent Baldwin to honor ten-year teams at future golf outings.  A discussion took place about changing the location for future outings and there was agreement that the outing needed to remain in Muncie.  Ed Shipley will research a possible change in location.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Ed Shipley reported that there is a balance of $4,128.76 in Account #412.  He added that the money in this account was for CFA functions and programming.  When asked how to assist the football program, Stan Parrish discussed the Touchdown Club and the Ball State Foundation CVC Account #802 as financial accounts that have been, and can be, very beneficial to the football program.

COMMENTS FROM COACH

Coach Parrish reported that 20 freshmen would be coming to camp with a total of 101 players.  He also discussed the upcoming season and the high school football camps.  The camp in Muncie had 615 players attend.  Stan said he plans to sign 25 recruits this year for the 2011 class.  He also discussed future scheduling and the difficulty in reaching balance.  He also wants to develop an NFL Wall in the Fisher Football Training Complex.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Ed Shipley reiterated that the attendance for the golf outing was good, and that the CFA Spring Open house was a good event, but attendance was low at 21.  Stan Parrish said he would plan to host the CFA Open House again in 2011 the week before the Spring Football Game.  The Spring Game is April 16, which would make the Open House on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Brent Baldwin asked about the CFA Tailgates and Ed reported that we didn’t do any last year and we had received no feedback.  Brent suggested the CFA host one tailgate at Homecoming.  Brent and David Scheller volunteered to assist with the tailgate, and Dave, Ron Duncan, and possibly Steve Midkiff could arrive early and hold their Gold parking spots for the tailgate.  Dave volunteered to bring his portable grill.

Brent Baldwin suggested using social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn to communicate about upcoming CFA events.  Ed Shipley said the BSUAA could do that.

There was discussion about again hosting the Senior Dinner to welcome the graduating lettermen into the CFA.  Changing the format, time of day, and having the dinner with another event was also discussed.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Alumni Center prior to the CFA Spring Open House.  A time will be determined at a later date.

There being no further business, Eric Scherrer made a motion to adjourn, Nick Tabacca seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.

Following the meeting CFA members and football lettermen attended the annual golf and dinner outing at the Muncie Elks Country Club.

Respectfully submitted,
Tracy L. Hendricks
