Ray Ashley Memorial Scholarship
The Ray Ashley Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Ray Ashley, who devoted seventeen years to the promotion of Homecoming activities. This scholarship is given to help promote student involvement in Homecoming and provide recognition as well as financial assistance to Ball State University students who donate their time and talents to Homecoming.
Objective:
A minimum of $5,000 shall be raised for this scholarship fund, which shall be held in trust, invested and disbursed by the Ball State University Foundation. The interest earned by the fund shall be used as the scholarship allocation each year. Awards are presented as individual stipends and many vary from year to year depending on funds available. The minimum stipend will be $500. In any year when an award is not made, the interest accrued shall be added to the corpus of the fund. Over the past several years, a stipend of $1,500 has been awarded to each recipient.
Criteria:
1. To be awarded annually to one or more Ball State University second year students or higher, but not to a graduate student, working on any of the Homecoming committees.
2. The recipient shall be selected by a committee composed of the following people:
Homecoming Faculty Advisor, Alumni Programs
St.A.R.T. Faculty Advisor, Alumni Programs
President, St.A.R.T.
Homecoming Steering Committee General Chairman (unless a candidate)
Executive Director, Alumni Programs
3. To be awarded to student(s) regardless of sex, race, national origin, ethnic background, or financial status of the student(s) and/or their parents.
4. The decisions of the Selection Committee shall be final. If, in the best judgment of the Committee, no suitable recipient exists, no award need be made.
Procedures:
1. All students involved in Homecoming activities from the previous fall are eligible for the Ray Ashley Memorial Scholarship. Students must complete the appropriate application by the stated deadline. Blank application forms are made available from the Alumni Programs.
2. The Selection Committee shall meet no later than the last week in January to review the applications and determine the scholarship recipient(s).
