Partner Profiles

Profiling successful partner Charter Schools in Northern, Central, and Southern Indiana forms the second section of our guidebook. The schools profiled are located within the three geographical regions of: Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Gary. Business Fellows worked in teams of four or more, traveling to the selected schools in each area to do case study observation and focused interviews with the students and faculty of the Charter Schools.

The Charter Schools profiled and presented are diverse, serving elementary, middle and high school students, with enrollment ranges from 200-800.  This profile only lists the Charter Schools open through the duration of the project. They are meeting the needs of traditionally underserved student populations, largely in urban areas. While the research of these schools reveals that the differences are interesting, it is the schools’ significant similarities that are more instructive for understanding their effectiveness:

1) They are each mission – driven, creating a safe learning environment and a strong school culture.

2) They teach for mastery, and students are given remediation, acceleration, and more time on task to learn.

3) They provide personalized support with programs such as college counseling, academic tutoring, and afterschool programming.
