1. Are you accepting applications? 

The deadline to apply for a 2014 PoPCAP award has passed.  Finalists will be announced by July 25, 2014.    

2. What is Primacy of Place?

Primacy of Place represents a community’s strategic choice to dedicate its resources toward the improvement of life experiences for residents, businesses, and visitors.

3. What is placemaking?

Placemaking is the act of supporting Primacy of Place through creating a community culture that nurtures wellness, happiness, and prosperity, and puts human interests at the center of community economic development.

4. What are the categories for community project submissions to the Primacy of Place Community Awards Program?

We believe that nearly all disciplines can be beneficial to economic and community development. If your program has enhanced the quality of life of your community, chances are very good that it is eligible. Learn more about the 2013 award-winning communities

5. Who is eligible for an award?

All Indiana communities may apply.  For purposes of this application, we define community as a group of people living in a specific locality bound by common heritage, values, attitudes, and/or interests. 

6. Will my application be competitive? 

The most competitive applications will be able to articulate tangible outcomes and exhibit a broad base of support that will have the endorsement of public and private entities.

7. How are finalists and winners determined?

A group of professionals from Ball State University, state agencies, and other state-wide organizations focused on economic community development use a quantitative and qualitative process to determine finalists and winners.  

8. What does my community receive if selected?

Finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the PoPCAP awards ceremony on August 7 at the Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie, Indiana, which will include lunch and special speaker presentation. Applications will also receive prominent recognition on our webpage and a graphic you can display on your own website.   Winners announced at the PoPCAP awards ceremony will receive: 

  • An original award designed by our Marilyn K Glick Center for Glass.
  • Promotional video of 30 seconds in length highlighting the community’s dedication to primacy of place efforts. 
  • Prominent recognition of your community and program on our awards webpage and a graphic you can display on your own. 
  • Two complimentary tickets to the 2014 Primacy of Place conference on October 16th at the Sheraton Hotel, Indianapolis.
