If I have a past due balance, what effect will it have on my schedule?
Your records will have an administrative hold placed on them which will prevent you from making a change to your schedule or registering for the next term. The hold will be released when the account is paid in full and you will be allowed to register and/or make course changes at that time.

What does it mean when my account has an administrative hold on it?
An administrative hold can be placed on your student account by many departments on campus. A hold from the Office of Bursar and Loan Administration means that a financial obligation has not been met. The hold will prevent a student from enrolling in the Installment Payment Plan, registering for courses, making a change to a schedule, obtaining a transcript or diploma, or processing an application for admission.

I know I have Financial Aid coming. Do I still have to make a payment?
Yes. Your account is required to be paid in full by the due date on the statement, or you must enroll in the Installment Payment Plan and make the first installment payment by September 1. To enroll in the Installment Payment Plan, you must agree to the terms and conditions and pay the $45 enrollment fee. You will need to continue making installment payments until your financial aid credits your account.

What is the difference between “dropping” a class and “withdrawing” from a class?
The "Drop/Add" period is the 1st week of each semester. The student must make the decision to drop a course during that week. A credit of tuition for the drop is only issued if the drop causes the student to reduce credit hours outside the 12-18 hour bracket. Students taking 12-18 hours are charged the same tuition rate, so any change within that bracket will not result in any change in tuition.

After the drop/add week, students may complete a "Withdrawal" from a course. This means that the student will be removed from the class list and receive a "W" on his/her transcript. Students who withdraw from a class are still financially responsible for the course since they have taken a space in the classroom that cannot be filled given that the Drop/Add period has ended. There are no refunds, reductions, or adjustments of tuition fees when “withdrawing” from courses after the drop/add week.

I registered for 9 credit hours and withdrew from a 3 credit hour class today. Will I get a refund of the tuition difference from 9 to 6 credit hours?
When withdrawing from a course, there will be no refunds, reductions, or adjustments of the tuition fees after the drop/add week. To receive a refund of tuition, students must “drop” the course during the drop/add week, which is the first week of the semester.

What is the Excess Credit Hour Fee?
The Excess Credit Hour Fee of $150 per credit hour is assessed to Indiana undergraduate students and Ohio reciprocity undergraduate students who have been enrolled for more than 4 years at Ball State, have exceeded 144 BSU earned credit hours, and have not attained a degree.  This fee is assessed in addition to regular tuition charges. NOTE: The fee does not apply to landscape architecture majors, which require more than 144 hours for graduation.

What is the Student Services Fee, and what does it cover?
The Student Services Fee helps support many events for students on campus. It includes the L.A. Pittenger Student Center and its programming, as well as athletic events and events at Emens Auditorium and other performing venues, which students may attend without additional charge. It also supports student groups, recreational activities, and debt payment on certain student facilities.

What is the Health Fee, and what does it cover?
The Health Fee is assessed to all students, registered for at least one main campus course, to support the operation of the Health Center. This allows students to seek medical attention at no additional charge.

I already have insurance. Why do I have to pay the Health Fee?
The Health Fee supports the operation of the Health Center. By having every student pay the fee, it is fair to everyone and encourages students to use the Health Center as needed.

Why do I have to pay the Recreation Fee if I am not using the facility?
The Recreation Fee is assessed to all students, registered for at least one main campus course, to support the operations of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Every student is allowed to use the facility without additional charge.

What does the Technology Fee cover?
The Technology Fee is essential for the university to operate and maintain a complex technological infrastructure. The fee supports wired and wireless networks, phone systems, computer labs, software, and software systems such as Blackboard. The fee also allows students to purchase software at reduced or no additional cost.

How Do I Get A New/Replacement BSU ID Card?
A $10 charge is required for a new or replacement BSU ID card; however, to reinstate a BSU ID, a $3 charge applies. This charge may be paid with cash, check, or Cardinal Cash at the Bursar's Office, Lucina Hall, Room B31 during normal business hours.

Once you provide proof of payment, you may obtain a BSU ID card at the Registrar's Office, Lucina Hall, Room B43. To validate your identity, you must bring another type of picture ID (i.e. a driver's license, charge card with picture, etc.) with you.
