Employee Self Serve

All employees are required to authorize electronic direct deposit of their payroll and paystubs are no longer issued by the Office of Payroll & Employee Benefits.  The University offers Employee Self Serve (ESS). ESS is a convenient, secure, and user-friendly resource accessed online through the BSU-ESS portal. It provides all student employees online access to personal information and is a useful tool to assist in keeping your records up to date.

ESS available from noon on Sunday through Monday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The system may be unavailable periodically for software updates.

  • What you need to use ESS:
  • BSU ID (omit first zero) or social security number
  • A distinct PIN number

Once in ESS, you may use the navigation bar or site map to access your personal information such as address, phone number, emergency contact information and all the information you would expect to find on your paystub.

You can access your direct deposit payroll statement via Employee Self Serve here.

Direct Deposit

All student employees are required to authorize electronic direct deposit of their wages. If you didn’t arrange for direct deposit when you first applied for student employment, or if you need to change your direct deposit information, please read on.

Direct deposit is a safe and secure way to have your wages deposited directly into your checking and/or saving account(s). Ball State University will electronically transfer your pay into your choice of bank account(s); the money will automatically be deposited into your account(s) on pay day.

Direct deposit offers many advantages over checks, including:

  • Security – with direct deposit, you don't have to worry about lost, stolen or misplaced checks.
  • Reliability – you no longer need to wait for your department to pick up and issue your checks. You can have peace of mind knowing your money will always be in your account on time.
  • Flexibility – if you decide, you can allocate your payroll into two separate accounts. If you need to switch accounts or financial institutions, it's easy to change your direct deposit arrangements. You simply need to complete a new Direct Deposit Authorization Form and return it to the BSU Payroll & Employee Benefits (AD 029).
