Referral accommodations may be issued without an in-person visit to the Career Center.  Students will be offered this accommodation when they are involved in appropriate academic activities which preclude them from appearing in person, such as internships or study abroad.  These accommodations are at the discretion of the Career Center.  Students meeting the accommodation criteria will be able to obtain a referral via phone call or email.

Phone call: Students involved in an internship or studying abroad will be able to call the Career Center and speak with a Student Employment representative, providing up to six (6) referral reference numbers in search of an on- or off-campus opportunity.  The Customer Service Specialist, Career Assistants (CA) or other designee will follow the same procedures as it were for someone who is requesting a referral in person.  Once the job descriptions are explained to the student via phone, it will be determined whether or not the student is qualified for and/or if he/she is interested in pursuing that job opportunity.  The Customer Service Specialist, CA or other designee will then confirm the student’s Ball State email address and email the referral request form(s) for the qualified jobs to the student.  It is the students’ responsibility to contact the hiring department or off-campus organization to schedule an interview.  The Career Center will not contact the employer to schedule appointments on the students’ behalf.

Email: Students involved in an internship or studying abroad will be able to email the Career Center via stujobs@bsu.edu with up to six (6) referral reference numbers in search of an on- or off-campus opportunity.  The Customer Service Specialist, Career Assistants (CA) or other designee will follow the same procedures as it were for someone who is requesting a referral in person; that is, providing a descriptive explanation via email about the respective job(s).  The student will be asked to provide a copy of their resume, if it is not saved in Cardinal Career Link.  Once the job descriptions are explained to the student via email, it will be determined whether or not the student is qualified for and/or if he/she is interested in pursuing that job opportunity.  The Customer Service Specialist, CA or other designee will respond to any questions regarding the job description via email.  However, the student has the option to call and speak with a Student Employment representative.  It is the students’ responsibility to contact the hiring department or off-campus organization to schedule an interview.  The Career Center will not contact the employer to schedule appointments on the students’ behalf.
