Blackboard Training
Training in Blackboard, Ball State's learning management system, is offered through the Integrated Learning Institute (iLearn). Specific sessions are held multiple times throughout the semester.
Blackboard: Blogs, Discussions Boards, Journals, and Wikis
In this 1 hour workshop, we will explore the web 2.0 tools that are built in to Blackboard to engage students with course content and promote active learning. In addition to technical/how to information, we will explore ideas and best practices for the use of these technologies. [register]
Blackboard: Content Management
This class covers content organization with folders and modules, content upload best practices and criteria based content release. Creating and grading assignments, will also be discussed. Feel free to bring your materials to class to get started. [register]
Blackboard: Designing an Effective Course Site
In this course, the attendees will learn how to create a course menu to match their course objectives and syllabus. In addition, a variety of styles as well as other design elements and home pages will be discussed. [register]
Blackboard: Grade Center
This course focuses on the Grade Center in Blackboard. Grade calculations, grade scales, weighting, dropping lowest grades etc. will be covered. Feel fre to bring your own computer, or use one of ours. [register]
Blackboard: Grade Center Shortcuts
This course focuses on tips, tricks, and shortcuts for the Grade Center in Blackboard. Organizing your columns, sorting filtering, color coding, creating useful Smart Views, etc. will be covered. Feel free to bring your own computer, or use one of ours. [register]
Blackboard Getting Started: Adding Course
This 1.5 hour session covers: adding course content using learning modules and folders, creating assignments and safe assignments, creating rubrics and grading assignments, adding mash-ups (YouTube and NBCLearn). [register]
Blackboard Getting Started: First Steps
In this one hour session you will learning how to: request your course, create a practice course, navigate Blackboard pages, create a menu to match your syllabus, change page and button styles, turn on Blackboard tools, and locate videos and tutorials. [register]
Blackboard: Q&A
This is not a hands-on course, rather a Q&A period where an IT staff member will be on hand to assist with questions, problems, or any issues that users may have. Though the duration is set for an hour, you may come and go as you need during the specified time period. Please register to assist with our record keeping. [register]
Blackboard: Surveys
This course focuses on Survey creation and deployment within your Blackboard course. Blackboard facilitates online test creation by offering 17 different question types, and import options from text files or publisher question banks. Survey questions and answers can be randomized allowing for each student to receive a unique survey. Survey delivery can be scheduled, timed, and even password protected. After your student completes the survey, you the instructor can view their anonymous feedback in Grade Center. Feel free to bring your computer or use one of ours. [register]
Blackboard: Tests & Quizzes
This course focuses on Test/Quiz creation and deployment within your Blackboard course. Blackboard facilitates online test creation by offering 17 different question types, and import options from text files or publisher text banks. Test questions and answers can be randomized, as well as organized into question pools allowing for each student to receive a unique exam. Test delivery can be scheduled, timed, and even password protected. After your student completes the assessment, they can receive customized feedback and information on their performance. Blackboard New Features: NBC Learn & Rubrics
This demonstration will introduce you to two Blackboard tools new to Ball State University: NBC Learn and Rubrics. [register]
Blackboard Users Group: BSUBUG
BSUBUG will meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in BC200 to explore current and new Bb tools and how they add value to face-to-face, online or blended courses. Using the Blackboard Discussion Board
This presentation will look at improving effectiveness in using the Blackboard Discussion Board (forum) tool.
Preparing Test Question Files for Loading into Blackboard
This presentation will show you how to create files that can be loaded into Blackboard as tests. You will learn how to format a file for the variety of different question formats (TF, MC, Essay, Fill-in-the-Blank, etc.).
Pronto
This presentation will include the pedagogy and the “how to” of Pronto, an instant messaging program that build “buddy lists” from Blackboard course enrollments. Pronto allows for text chat, video chat, and desktop sharing capabilities.
Safe Assign
This presentation will include the pedagogy and the “how to” of the SafeAssign tool within Blackboard. Safe Assignments are those that are checked against a variety of databases for text matching to ensure authenticity.
