After the Fire
Monday, February 4
7:30pm - 9:00pm, Pruis Hall
PRESENTED BY:
Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simons, survivors of the Seton Hall fire and subjects of the film After the Fire
ABOUT THE SESSION:
In the frigid predawn hours of January 19, 2000, lives
were changed because of a great tragedy on the campus of Seton Hall University.
In Boland Hall, a freshman dormitory, what many students thought was another
night of false fire alarms turned out to be the real thing. Three freshman
students passed away and fifty-eight others were injured. Amongst the injured
were two roommates, Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simons, who became two of the most
severely burned students. Their story focuses on the highs and lows of their
recoveries, the development of a life-long friendship, the tireless efforts of
the medical staff, and the criminal/arson investigation, which later led to the
conviction of two of their classmates, who started the fire as a prank.
THERE IS NO REGISTRATION NEEDED FOR THIS PROGRAM.
