Natural Gas Safety

A number of buildings or operations on the Ball State University premises are served by natural gas supplied by Vectren.  While Vectren is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the natural gas distribution piping and meters (with the exception of two (2) of the Anthony Apartment buildings which are operated by BSU as Master Meter operations), the maintenance of building gas piping beyond the gas meters is the responsibility of the University.

Natural gas is a safe and dependable fuel source, but leaks can rarely occur. A guidance document, Natural Gas Safety, presents the potential hazards and procedures to be followed in the event that a gas leak, or carbon monoxide accumulation, is suspected.

Questions on gas safety from residents of the 2-story Anthony Apartment buildings may be referred to the BSU Master Meter Operator at 285-2807.  Refer to the Gas Public Notice for more information.
