bsusecure Wireless Network FAQ

Below are answers to frequently asked questions about the bsusecure wireless network.
I use a Mac and my computer is prompting me to log in after I set up the connection to bsusecure.
| | You should set up bsusecure as your preferred wireless network. 1. Click on the wireless/AirPort icon in the upper right-hand corner and select Open Network Preferences.  2. Click on the Advanced… Button. 3. Remove bsu and bsuguest (if present) from the list of Preferred Networks, by clicking on the Network Name and then clicking the minus sign. 4. If other networks are present in the list of Preferred Networks, you can click on bsusecure and drag it to the top of the list of Preferred Networks. 5. Click OK to close the Advanced Settings page. 6. Click Apply to close Network Preferences. |
I use a Mac and have removed bsuguest from my list of networks, but I still am being prompted to log in. | | You need to update your User Profile to remember your login credentials. 1. Click on the wireless/AirPort icon in the upper right-hand corner and select Open Network Preferences.  2. Click on the Advanced… Button. 3. Click on the 802.1x tab. 4. Click the arrow to expand User Profiles. 5. Select the first WPA:bsusecure in the list of User Profiles. 6. Remove what is in the Password field and then enter your password in the Password field. 7. Delete all User Profiles, except the one you just updated. 8. Click OK to close the advanced settings page. 9. Click Apply to close Network Preferences. |
I use a Mac and I am getting a pop-up message about a certificate. What should I do?
| | You can click the Continue button to connect to bsusecure. If you simply click Continue, you will have to do it each time to access bsusecure. |
| | If you want to permanently stop seeing the certificate message, you need to add bsusecure as a trusted site. 1. Click the Show Certificate button. 2. Click the arrow next to Trust. 3. Click the arrow after “When using this certificate” 4. Click on Always Trust. 5. Click Continue. 6. Enter the computer’s password when prompted. 7. Click OK or Accept. |
I use Windows 7, and I am prompted to accept a certificate as part of the bsusecure setup process.
| | This does happen sometimes on Windows 7, so you should accept the certificate. |
When setting up the connection to bsusecure on my Windows computer, my setup screen does not provide a place for me to enter a domain. | | Your version of Windows does not support domain access. To access bsusecure, enter bsu\username (where username is your Ball State computer username) in the username field. |
Is bsuguest going away?
| | bsuguest is provided for guests who are visiting Ball State. As part of this process, guests are required to go through a page where they will accept terms and agreements. |
My gaming device does not provide a way for me to authenticate to the bsusecure wireless network. How can I connect my gaming device to the Internet in my residence hall room or university apartment? | | Wired connections (Ethernet) will provide the best gaming experience and are the supported connection for gaming in residence hall rooms and university apartments. All rooms are equipped with at least one Ethernet jack that can be used for wired connectivity to the network. If your gaming device is deemed wireless only, then it will require and adapter to connect via the wired connection. |
