Assistant Professor, Dance Historian and Teacher, Department of Theatre and Dance

Tenure-track faculty position available August 15, 2014.  

Responsibilities:  teach a variety of academic and performance courses within a growing BFA dance curriculum; teach all levels of dance history, introduction to dance, and an online/hybrid introduction to dance offering for the general student population; mentor student creativity and research; perform departmental and advisory duties as assigned.  

Minimum qualifications:  Master's degree or higher in theatre, dance or related field with strong emphasis in dance (completed by August 1, 2014); one year of teaching at the university/college level; ability to teach all levels of dance history, introduction to dance, and an online/hybrid introduction to dance offering for the general student population; excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a liberal arts setting.  

Preferred qualifications:  Ph.D. in dance or in a related field with a strong emphasis in dance; three years of teaching at the university/college level with substantial professional experience; record of scholarly productivity in dance studies (research, publication, choreography, reconstruction, or other related areas); expertise and ability to teach in at least one area of dance technique or pedagogy.

The department maintains an active role in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and the Kennedy Center American College Dance Festival (KCACDF).  Theatre and Dance programs are NAST/NASD accredited.
