Assistant/Associate Professor--Acting Teacher, Department of Theatre and Dance

Tenure-track faculty position available August 15, 2014.  

Responsibilities:  teach a variety of acting and other performance courses in the undergraduate BFA/BA/BS curriculum; commit to a collaborative teaching environment within a rigorous training program that emphasizes the integration of acting, voice, and movement; recruit actors within the BFA Acting and Musical Theatre Programs; assist in ongoing curriculum development; serve as acting coach for departmental productions as well as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago Showcases.  Candidate may have the opportunity to participate as an actor or director within the annual production season.  

Minimum qualifications:   master of fine arts or doctorate degree completed by August 1, 2014; ability to teach all levels of course work in acting; knowledge and appreciation of various approaches to actor training; one year of university or college teaching experience; ability to work collegially within a liberal arts setting. 

Preferred qualifications:  master of fine arts in acting; substantial professional experience as an actor; at least three years of university or college teaching experience; expertise with African-American, Hispanic, Native American, and/or other diverse theatrical voices; commitment to engaging students in an ongoing dialog about the social, political, and cultural contributions of ethnic theatre throughout history and today.

The department maintains an active role in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and the Kennedy Center American College Dance Festival (KCACDF.  Theatre and Dance programs are NAST/NASD accredited.
