Developing Technologies
Developing Technologies is focused on providing innovative, creative and out of the box ideas and skills to drive the next generation of data-driven web, mobile and desktop experiences for students and faculty. The ultimate goal is to reduce the hassle factor for students - knock down and break through the walls that separate them from the academic and institutional data and services they rely on each day, while offering a rich and immersive experience.
The first mobile app, bConnected received rave reviews from students and had thousands of downloads. The app provided students real-time access to course schedules, student organizations, campus housing, financial aid, grades and a few other bits of academic information. More than a simple self-service app, bConnected helped students connect with everyone around them, including classmates, instructors, organization members, neighbors and advisors.
Through collaborative efforts, the unit has received an honorable mention in the Samsung Galaxy, Note App Challenge been a guest blogger the Official Google TV blog and assisted with the development for the Virtual Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University.
The work covers the spectrum of technologies and devices, including Android and iOS apps for smartphones, tablets and TV; data and interface integration with 3D virtual and reality and visualization; utilizing planetary and solar tracking data from NASA; and development with other third party tools and products.
