Conferencing

Conferencing may mean different things to different people. In Unified Communications it can be a term used to describe a conference call, or a videoconference.

A conference call is commonly thought of as a telephone call connecting three or more people into a single phone conversation. This can be accomplished with three way calling, Meet-Me for two to six callers, or Meet-Me Plus for calls with as many as 25 participants.

The simplest description of a videoconference is video and audio communication between two or more people. In reality there are different types of video communication. There is point to point video and audio between two people (Skype, iChat, and Movi). Multi-point communications is where one person provides the content (Example: A PowerPoint presentation through WebEx or GoToMeeting. Multi-point connectivity is one or more people watching, and there is multi-site video and audio, (think of multiple conference rooms that can see and speak to each other).
