Since January 2015, Julie Hopwood has served as the Interim Vice President for the newly formed Division of Strategic Communications and Division of Enrollment Services, providing administrative leadership and direction during a comprehensive division reorganization under The Centennial Commitment (18 by ’18) review of best practices. In the role of Interim Vice President for Strategic Communications, Ms. Hopwood manages Ball State University internal and external communications and brand messaging to all constituencies through marketing, news, publications, creative, web, and digital formats while maintaining a significant focus on building Ball State University’s long-term enrollment management strategic plan to promote effective engagement in recruitment and retention of Ball State University students as undergraduates, graduate students, and online students.
Julie Hopwood also serves as the Senior Advisor to the President, providing the President with support in major projects and initiatives, contextual analysis and optimum strategic planning for student-centered and community-engaged decision-making, communications, and implementation, based upon a decade of experience in academic administration.
Ms. Hopwood possesses a professional portfolio that effectively integrates an educational foundation in law, communication, public administration, and policy with higher education administration. Her particular experience in strategic planning through institutional policy development, shared governance, faculty and student welfare, research and economic development, and marketing and communications has contributed significantly to the growth and development of several academic institutions. Ms. Hopwood served as Senior Advisor to the President at the University of Maine from 2011-2014, managing the Division of Strategic Communications enterprise in close collaboration with the Division of Enrollment Management. From 2007-2011, she served as Special Assistant to the Provost for Policy and Communications at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She began her career in academic administration serving as Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas from 2004-2006.
Ms. Hopwood received the Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho, the M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, and the M.P.A. from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
