Ball State University is committed to pursuing sustainability practices that positively impact the environment. We believe that we all share responsibility in maintaining a safe and enjoyable planet. It is for this reason that Ball State University makes every effort to reuse items (when possible), recycle all items (when feasible), and when recycling is not an option; only contract with disposal companies that can guarantee 100% of all waste and discarded materials do not end up in landfills.

Did you know that as part of Purchasing Services' commitment to sustainability, every effort is made to recycle plastic wrap, electronics, and pallets? On average, the Ball State University Purchasing Department collects the following for recycling annually:

  • Stretch Plastic Wrap: 1000 Lbs.
  • Wooden Pallets: 2300 pallets
  • Electronics: 50,000 Lbs.
  • Assets Placed back on Campus: 750 items

Our efforts in limiting our environmental impact have not gone unnoticed; in 2016 Ball State University's Purchasing Services was awarded the Silver award for End-of-Life Management by the State Electronics Challenge (SEC), an award administered by the Northeast Recycling Council, Inc.

Our efforts are not just about rewards and recognition, but instead we strive to leave a better world and campus for all future Ball State University students, faculty and staff.
