There is one commencement ceremony in July, honoring students who have completed their degree requirements by the end of summer semester. The ceremony is in the 11,500-seat Worthen Arena. Tickets are not required.

Ball State University has eight academic colleges. Undergraduate students sit with the college of their major and cross the stage as they are individually recognized. Doctoral and master's students sit with the Graduate School and cross the stage as they are individually recognized.

Doctoral diplomas are presented at the ceremony. All other students will receive diplomas by mail four to eight weeks after commencement, regardless of whether you participate in the ceremony.

If you are eligible to participate in the ceremony, you must indicate your participation choice (yes or no) on your graduation application. If you change your plans to participate, please email us.
For the day of the ceremony, here are instructions for lining up and guidelines for the academic regalia you’ll wear. See below for more information.

Bachelor’s and Associates

Line-Up Information

Report to Undergraduate Line Up at 9 a.m. in Worthern Arena, Gate 3, on the concourse level. Once in the Line-Up area, signs will identify each college, and faculty marshals will offer directions. Not sure of your college?

Name Cards

You will receive a name card at the line up site, which will be used to read names. Print your name on the card and hand it to the reader before crossing the stage. If your name is difficult to pronounce, include a phonetic pronunciation as well as the printed name. Please fill out the back of the card clearly so you can receive information about the pictures taken of you during the ceremony.

Academic Attire

If you intend to participate in the ceremony, you will need to purchase the necessary regalia such as the cap, gown, and tassel. The Ball State Bookstore in the Art and Journalism Building has regalia in stock at all times.

Doctorate and Specialist in Education

Line-Up Information

Meet and line up at 9 a.m. inside the Worthen Arena lobby near the main ticket office (Gate 1) on the ground level. Please enter the doors that face north of Bethel Avenue.

Name Cards

Doctoral and specialist candidates do not need to fill out name cards. Details about the pronunciation of their names will be worked out ahead of time through the Graduate Office, and they will receive their name cards during line-up on commencement day.

Academic Attire

If you intend to participate in the ceremony, you will need to purchase the necessary regalia such as the cap, gown, and tassel. The Ball State Bookstore in the Art and Journalism Building has regalia in stock at all times.
