Early Ceremony Participation:
Students that request participation in a ceremony prior to their graduation date must receive permission from their College Dean's Office.
Students who participate in an early ceremony will not have their name in the commencement program. In addition, the student is responsible for understanding the attire and expectations of a commencement ceremony. Information on all commencement ceremonies is available on the website and updated routinely to assist with planning.
Although early participation names will not appear in the program, the student must obtain a name card from the Office of the College Dean. Name cards are available in all college dean offices and it is recommended to obtain the card at least two weeks prior to the commencement ceremony date. Name cards are essential to participate in a ceremony as the card is used by the speaker to announce the student name.
*Important - The approval to participate in an early ceremony does not fill the requirement of application to graduate. All students must apply for graduation and indicate the term in which all degree requirements (including terms of internship) are finished. The application to graduate indicates completion of degree requirements; early ceremony participation is usually a preceding term with college dean approval and notification to the Commencement Coordinator. Because there is a fee assessed with each application to graduate; do not apply for graduation with the term equal to early participation. A refund on application submitted for the wrong term of completion will not be granted. Students must apply for graduation for the term that all degree requirements are finished.
