Graduating with Honors
The Spring 2012 Senior Recognition Dinner honoring Ball State's outstanding graduating seniors with academic honors will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Worthen Arena, Lower Level-Gate 1. Formal invitations will be sent and responses are required by April 11, 2012. Pending graduates will be able to pick up medallions, academic honor chords, and departmental honors certificates at the dinner.
Academic honors designations are for baccalaureate degree recipients only. Students graduating from the Honors College and those graduating with academic honors, departmental honors, and honors in writing will be recognized during the ceremony. Students who cannot attend the dinner may pick up cords or medallions in the Commencement Office, Lucina Hall, room B4, or on commencement morning at the lineup site for the main ceremony.
Honors College graduates will wear red and white honors cords. Those graduating with academic honors will wear medallions signifying their honors designations. Students graduating with academic honors must have earned at least 60 credits at Ball State and a total of at least 120 credits including transfer credits. The Ball State grade point average must be 3.6 to 3.79 for cum laude, 3.8 to 3.89 for magna cum laude, and 3.9 to 4.0 for summa cum laude.
If final grades change the honors designation, the new designation will be printed on the diploma and transcript.
Associate degrees with academic distinction: A student who earns an associate degree, maintains at least a 3.6 grade point average, and earns at least 30 graded credits from Ball State will have the designation “Academic Distinction” noted on the transcript and diploma.
