Involvement in a research or creative project requires dedication of effort, time, and resources beyond a faculty member's normal assigned responsibilities. Ball State University supports this commitment through the Aspire Program. The primary emphasis of these funding opportunities is to provide seed money for research, scholarly study, and creative endeavors to seek further support from external funding.

Reprint Support

For faculty members looking for support related to publication, reprints, and page charges Aspire offers the Reprint/Publication Support Program. Work must have been accepted for publication or published in a refereed or other scholarly journal.  Reprint applications must be submitted via the Submittable online portal. This will require an individual account. The maximum amount for this award is $500 per author per fiscal year.  The deadline for this competition is the 15th of every month.

 

Travel Support

Faculty members looking to travel for the purpose of securing external funding or support the preparation of external proposals.   Funding is available for expenses associated with travel primarily for face‐to‐face meetings with program officers of funding agencies or foundations.  Faculty Travel applications must be submitted via the Submittable online portal. This will require an individual account. The maximum amount of this program is $500.  The deadline for this competition is the 15th of every month.

 

International Travel

For tenured and tenure-track faculty members looking to travel abroad for academic or creative activity Aspire offers the International Travel Program.  The maximum amount for this program is $400.  Please see the Aspire Calendar to view the deadlines for this competition.

 

Hollis Fund

Faculty members and students who plan to conduct psychology based research projects may apply for the Aspire Hollis Fund Competition.  Proposals from any department may be submitted as long as the research is psychology based.  The maximum amount for this award is $500.  Please see the Aspire Calendar to view the deadlines for this competition

 

Start-Up Program

Aspire aims to support new tenure-track faculty members jump start their research and creative arts agenda.  The Start-Up Program will assist new faculty in purchasing supplies, research-related items, and to assist in travel by offering a one-time SEET grant. Junior Faculty Research

Aspire offers the Research Competition for Junior Faculty to provide seed money for research findings that can be further supported by external funding.  In general, projects submitted to the research competition involve a process of study or discovery that will produce new insights, theories, or applications within the discipline and/or society.  The maximum award amount for this competition is $15,000.  Please see the Aspire Calendar to view the deadlines for this competition.

 

Junior Faculty Creative Arts

Aspire offers the Creative Arts Competition Junior Faculty members to provide support for projects that propose the creation and/or presentation of a work of creative art.  Some of the eligible projects include Arts Education, Dance, Literature, Media Arts, Music, and many more.  The maximum amount for this competition is $15,000.  Please see the Aspire Calendar to view the deadlines for this competition.

 

Advance Program

Faculty members preparing to submit proposals to external sponsors may apply to the Advance Program.  The program aims to encourage and promote proposal submissions to external sponsors by providing various levels of support during the proposal development process and in the support of ongoing research..  The goal of the Advance program is to increase the quantity and quality of competitive external grant proposals submitted by BSU faculty.  The maximum amount for this competition is $15,000 based on Advance Activity. Please see the Aspire Calendar to view the deadlines for this competition.



CREATE Program

The CREATE program aims to encourage the artistic and creative endeavors of faculty. The program hopes to support the creation and presentation of works of those in the fields of Art, Dance, Design, Folk, Literature and more. Through this program applicants have the opportunity to request a larger amount of funding if they plan to submit proposals to external sponsors. The maximum amount for this competition is $7,500 based on external funding plans. Please see the Aspire Calendar to view the deadlines for this competition.



External Reviews

Faculty members preparing external submissions who feel their application would benefit from an expert assessment should speak with their assigned Proposal Manager for possible funding availability. Support for an external reviewer is a dependent on many factors. Please contact your Proposal Manger very early  in the process to see if your request is eligible.
