Welcome Week will connect you with our supportive campus community and help you make a smooth transition to college life. We encourage all first-year students to attend these optional (unless otherwise noted) events!

From your move-in to the start of classes, here’s a sneak peek of our events.

  • Premium Plan Move-In – Housing Premium Plan members move into residence halls.
  • Welcome and Information Tent – Stop by if you have questions or need information.
  • Residence Hall Activities – Take advantage of this time to make new friends!

  • Move-In – Get all your stuff organized in your room.
  • University Libraries Info Table – Learn about services and resources that will help make your college career a success.
  • Welcome and Information Tent – Stop by if you have questions or need information.
  • Counseling Center Resource Fair – Pick up a stress ball and learn about our counseling services.
  • Honors Convocation – Receive a warm welcome from the Honors College dean, faculty representatives, and the Student Honors Council (mandatory for all honors freshmen).
  • 21st Century Scholars Symposium – Mandatory event for all incoming freshmen with a 21st Century Scholarship. Learn more about the program’s requirements and expectations, and be introduced to campus staff and resources dedicated to your success.
  • Blackboard Learning Session – Learn how your professors will use cool technology to post grades, assignments, quizzes, and video lectures to maximize your academic success.
  • Residence Hall Floor Meetings and Activities – Learn the ins and outs of residence hall life, meet your Welcome Week leader, and participate in social activities.
  • Intro to Ball State Athletics: Chirp! Chirp! – Get fired up for Ball State sports (mandatory event).

  • University Libraries Info Table – Learn about services and resources that will help make your college career a success.
  • Welcome Week Service Project – Join other Ball State students in giving back to the community.
  • Where Are My Classes? – Your Welcome Week leader will be available to help you find your first-semester classes.
  • Mock Class Lectures Hosted by Professors – These interactive lectures will show you what to expect on your first day of class.
  • Writing Center Open House – Learn how to make an appointment. Get to know our tutors.
  • Off-Campus Job Fair – Hosted by the Ball State Career Center. Meet with local employers to learn about part-time job openings, open to all students.
  • Outdoor Pursuits Adventures – Try stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, and much more.
  • Blackboard Learning Session – Learn how your professors will use cool technology to post grades, assignments, quizzes, and video lectures to maximize your academic success.
  • Hypnotist Dan LaRosa – A Ball State tradition, this master hypnotist will have you laughing and leave you amazed.

  • Mock Class Lecture Hosted by Professors – Learn what to expect on the first day of classes.
  • Recreation Exploration – Get free T-shirts, “Rec Bucks,” and other prizes at the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center in an afternoon of fun.
  • Transfer Student Reception – Transfer students will have the opportunity to mingle with other students and faculty/staff from across campus while enjoying complimentary refreshments and participating in a T-shirt swap.
  • Commuting 101 – This unique workshop will address commuter student needs and issues. Students will meet other commuters, be introduced to their Commuter Ambassador, become familiar with the campus, and learn key skills for commuters.
  • Where Are My Classes? – Your Welcome Week leader will help you find your first semester classes.
  • Activity Fair – This is your first opportunity to get involved in one of Ball State’s more than 400 student organizations.
  • Late Nite @ Ball State – Have fun until 1 a.m. at the best party on campus with a variety of activities.

  • Freshman Convocation – Dressed in full academic regalia, Ball State’s president and faculty welcome new students (mandatory event).
  • Book Discussion Groups – Your first academic assignment involves discussing the Freshman Common Reader, the book you were given at Orientation. Read the book before you arrive on campus (mandatory event).
  • Floor Meetings – Get to know the other students, resident assistants, and policies on your residence hall floor.
