Commuter Ambassador Program

This program pairs commuting freshmen with upperclassmen known as Commuter Ambassadors. Your ambassador will help answer questions you might have about Ball State, provide opportunities to connect and meet other commuters, and program special events during the semester.

Transfer Ambassador Program

This program pairs first semester transfer students with upper-class Ambassadors. The Ambassador provides support to ensure a successful transition to Ball State University. They host on-campus events, schedule group dinners, and provide opportunities for students to connect with all aspects of Ball State University life.

Sophomore Peer Coaches

Sophomore Peer Coaches connect students with campus resources and co-curricular events. Programming focuses on career connections through off-site employer visits and providing opportunities for personal development through a sophomore-specific leadership conference. Our goal is to improve sophomore student persistence and graduation rates at Ball State University by providing specially targeted support services.

21st Century Scholar Programs

Ball State University partners with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to provide a 21st Century Scholar Support Specialist for first and second year 21st Century Scholars on our campus. Scholars actively participate in campus and community programs such as:

  • 21st Century Scholar Ambassadors
  • Project Leadership Mentoring Program
  • 21st Century Scholar Symposium

MAP-Works Survey

The MAP-Works survey is distributed electronically to all freshmen, sophomore, and transfer students beginning in September (January for spring admits). Our office examines the results of the surveys and we reach out to those who are exhibiting multiple risk indicators, such as not returning to Ball State University. We meet one-on-one with students to better understand their needs and to connect them with support services.

Academic Outreach

Our office offers assistance to students who are experiencing academic difficulty. Freshmen and sophomore students with midterm deficiency grades or on academic probation will be contacted by our office with an invitation to meet and discuss related issues. We use a coaching approach to support students. Additionally, detailed action plans are created, which outline personal and academic to ensure students achieve good academic standing.
