Tony is Ball State’s chief communications officer. Leading the operations of University Marketing and Communications (UMC), he oversees the development, coordination, and execution of integrated marketing and communications strategies that build the Ball State brand. Under his leadership, the efforts of UMC enhance the image, reputation, and competitive success of Ball State University. He also serves as primary university spokesperson.
Tony has been crafting and executing marketing strategies and marketing research in higher education for 14 years. After graduating from Ball State, he began conducting marketing research projects for the auxiliaries of the Indiana University-Bloomington campus. When he left IU in January 2007, he had just completed leading (with two other coleads) the university’s seven-campus branding initiative.
In the Office of Communications and Marketing at IU, he served under the vice president of public affairs and the government relations as the marketing-communications lead with the IU Foundation and with all campuses other than Bloomington. He also led day-to-day operations of the Office of Communications and Marketing. Tony’s work at IU gave him the opportunity to lead, plan, and execute marketing communications strategies on campuses of all sizes (populations from 2,500 to 38,000 students) and in diverse service regions.
Tony returned to his alma mater in January 2007. In his time at Ball State, the university has enjoyed growing media exposure nationally and statewide; relaunched its web site to national acclaim; fully implemented an Education Redefined advertising campaign; enhanced the publications that support admission; launched a $200 million capital campaign; welcomed back to campus Ball State’s most prominent alumnus, David Letterman, along with the more than 80 media representatives who attended the event; and announced Ball State’s recent contribution to Indiana and students: the Emerging Media Initiative.
Tony believes deeply in Ball State and the transformative power of higher education and couldn’t be more pleased to serve the university. He has a soft spot for Habitat for Humanity.
