As a communications manager, Kate collaborates with campus departments and divisions to achieve strategic marketing and communications outcomes within the Ball State brand. She is committed to advancing the university’s identity and mission through everything from internal reports and promotional materials to web-based narratives that highlight Ball State’s dynamic personalities and programs.
Prior to joining the University Marketing and Communications team in fall 2011, Kate served Valdosta State University as a communications specialist and editor of the VSU Alumni Association Voice magazine, distributed biannually to more than 45,000 alumni and constituents. For nearly five years she guided the university’s internal communications through the production of a weekly campus newsletter, management of several university websites, and coordination of departmental publications.
Kate earned a magazine journalism degree from the University of Missouri—Columbia in 2004, and proceeded to write and edit for a diverse blend of publications, including several magazines and newspapers in Missouri, Texas, and Georgia. She also spent time in London, England, where she reported global humanitarian news for Reuter’s AlertNet.
In December 2010, Kate attained a Master of Higher Education Leadership, which has provided her with a greater understanding of the organizational theories that govern campus leaders and the importance of higher education in a greater social context. She has enjoyed fusing her journalism experience and passion for higher education to promote all that is Ball State.
