BSU United Way Campaign Kick-Off

Published on 10/11/2010

The university's annual campus United Way kick-off was October 7, 2010. By now, every Ball State employee will have received his or her pledge information through campus mail. If you haven't, contact Marta Stephens or pledge online.

The building blocks of this year's Delaware County United Way campaign continue to be the basic things that we all need for a good life:

1. education that leads to a stable job
2. income that can support a family through retirement, and
3. good health

During the next eight weeks we will have an opportunity to learn more about "Living United" and discover ways we can make a difference in another person's life. At Ball State University, this fund-raising effort offers three ways to give:

1. Payroll Deduction Card. Payroll deductions are for the purpose of breaking the donation into payments over an extended period of time. Payroll deductions for United Way campaign contributions will begin in January after the close of the current year's campaign and will be taken out monthly up through the following December. If you would like to make a lump-sum donation, please write a personal check made out to United Way of Delaware County and submit it with your pledge card.

2. Fund-raising ideas for individual departments are made available on the BSU United Way website. Talk with your team captain and choose one or more ideas from the list or come up with your department's unique fund-raiser. The names of all the 2010 team captains are listed under The Ball State University United Way Team.

3. Another option is to volunteer. Several of the Community Partners have a great need for volunteers throughout the year. For more information on how you can volunteer, contact the Delaware County United Way office at 765-288-5586.

The university values its partnership with the community and United Way. Since its inception several decades ago, the campaign has continued to grow. In 2009 Ball State employees made contributions totaling $168,437. This figure represents 91% of the 2009 goal.

Can we do better in 2010?

Our 2010 United Way campaign goal is $170,121. Please remember that no amount is too small and every penny will help someone less fortunate: a co-worker, a neighbor, a friend, or perhaps you. Let's keep an eye on the campaign goal thermometer posted on the Ball State University United Way home page over the next eight weeks and reach for 100% of our 2010 goal!

Once again, BSU Dining will provide a pizza party to one department with 100% contributions/participation in this year's campaign. Any department that has 100% individual participation (does not include department fund-raising efforts) will be eligible to be included in the drawing to win the pizza party. In order to be included in the drawing, all pledge contributions must be received in University Human Resource Services by the last day of the campaign, November 30, 2010.

Note: Designations can be made to other charitable causes in other communities and to those that are not affiliated with United Way.
