Unit 3: Dialogue and Basic Crisis Response
Objectives
- To develop skills to interview survivors of domestic violence
- To increase awareness of indicators of domestic violence
- To develop skills to identify strengths both within the survivor and in the environment around the survivor
We see IPV as a public health issue, analogous to tobacco use or the presence of firearms in a house, with recognized effects on physical and mental health, as well as on children's well-being. Therefore, we believe it is important to routinely inquire with all clients about a history of IPV. The techniques and skills identified in this section can be adapted for any social work setting.
