Diabetes Prevention Program

Ball State University in collaboration with YMCA of Muncie is excited to offer a program for individuals who have pre-diabetes or are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. 

Research funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention demonstrates this 16 week course reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%. Classes will be conducted right here on campus for your convenience during the lunch hour.

Curriculum: Classroom based discussions on nutrition, increasing physical activity and behavior modification
Cost: $135 for benefit eligible employees, covered spouses, or same sex domestic partners.    
* $100 reimbursement will be given to employees, if you attend 13 of the 16 sessions.

Can I participate?

In order to participate with the Diabetes Prevention Program you must meet a combination of the following risk factors. (This does NOT mean you have diabetes)

  • Are you a women who had a baby weighing more than nine pounds?
  • Do you have a parent or sibling with diabetes?
  • Are you younger than 65 years of age and get little to no physical activity in a typical day?
  • Are you between 45 and 64 years of age?
  • Are you 65 years or older?
  • Do you weigh as much or more than the weight listed below for your height?
