Thanks to our alumni and friends, our Ball State Bold capital campaign has surpassed our $200 million goal, more than the total of our last two capital campaigns combined.
An important part of Ball State Bold is planned giving. We have $59 million in commitments, exceeding our $50 million goal. A large portion of those funds go to scholarships.
Not only do scholarships assist students with college expenses, they help Ball State attract students like Rhodes Scholarship finalist Abigail Shemoel, ’11, whose career goal is to work internationally on the issue of adequate and sustainable shelter for millions of the world’s poor, possibly with the U.N. Centre for Human Settlements.
She is a landscape architecture major, earned a Ball State Presidential Scholarship, and is currently a Udall Foundation undergraduate scholar at Ball State. She is also a past recipient of the National Garden Clubs Scholarship and already has studied the effects of environmental management on ecotourism in Costa Rica. She recently completed an internship in Argentina with the Foundation for Sustainable Development. She is spending her final semester as a Ball State student conducting additional research on sustainable community development in Brazil.
Exceeding our goal in the toughest economy since the Great Depression is an impressive accomplishment. However, our work is not yet finished. In the final months of the campaign, we are still seeking gifts for other campaign initiatives such as creating more immersive learning experiences and increasing participation among alumni.
Goal 4, Supporting Objective ii: By 2012, complete a comprehensive campaign with a goal in excess of $200 million.
Goal 4, Supporting Objective ii: By 2012, achieve 16 percent alumni annual giving participation.
Goal 4, Supporting Objective ii: By 2012, increase unrestricted private gift support to $1.5 million annually.
