Distinguished Ball State alumnus David Letterman, host of CBS’s Late Show, returned to his alma mater in September 2010 to host a conversation
with Twitter cofounder Biz Stone about social media. The two media pioneers shared the stage before a full house in Emens Auditorium for an interactive lecture on Twitter and emerging media.
The exchange between the late night broadcaster and Internet entrepreneur was part of the David Letterman Distinguished Professional Lecture and Workshop Series, established by the university in 2008 through a generous gift from Letterman. Since its debut, the lecture series has brought a procession of national experts in emerging media to campus for important exchanges with students and faculty.
Angela Ahrendts, chief executive officer of Burberry, returns to campus in March to
deliver a talk as part of the Letterman Lecture Series. She will discuss how Burberry has used emerging media, especially social media, to advance its global luxury brand. Before speaking at the May 2010 Commencement, Ahrendts connected with our students by a live Web chat from London and via Twitter. She also led the creation of $1 million in scholarships, funding several Bold Celebration Scholars and establishing the Burberry Emerging Media Scholars.
Goal 4, Objective F: By 2012, increase by 20 percent over 2006–07 base participation in cultural activities on campus.
