Schedule of Classes

I can’t find my subject code in the drop-down menu. Where did it go?
Due to system limitations, some subject codes were required to change. Descriptions are found next to the code in the drop-down menu so please use them as a guide (most common are technology courses, which in the old system began with an I and now begins with a T). If you know the department name, search all subjects and then narrow by department.

Registration and Time Tickets

How long do I have to register?
A. You will be eligible to add or drop courses from the time stated on your ticket until the end of the add/drop period after the semester begins. However, the sooner you register, the greater the chance that you will be able to enroll in your preferred courses.

Contact: Registrar’s Office
Phone: 765-285-1722
registrar@bsu.edu
www.bsu.edu/registrar

What if a course is full?
If the course is full, you will not be able to register for it. Some courses are set up with waitlists, but not all. If you have a question about a course that is full or has a waitlist, call or visit the department offering the course.

Contact: Individual Academic Departments

How do I get on a waitlist?

  1. In a compatible web browser (Internet Explorer 8, Safari 5 or 4.1, or Firefox 3.6), go to my.bsu.edu.
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Click on SSB - Self-Service Banner.
  4. Go to course add/drop/withdraw.
  5. Type in the CRN (5-digit course reference number) of the course you wish to waitlist in the Add Classes Worksheet.
  6. Click submit changes button.
  7. When the class comes up, use drop down menu under action column to select “Wait Listed” and click submit changes.

What happens after I join the waitlist for a course?

When you view your schedule in the system, you will see the course listed as "Wait List," instead of the "Web Registered" description you see for courses you have successfully added. If enough students drop the course to reach your name on the waitlist, you will receive an e-mail from the registrar's office with instructions for adding the course to your schedule. If another section of the course is available, we recommend that you web drop the waitlist course and add the other section to your schedule to assure that you get it.

How do I find out where I stand on a specific course waitlist?

Visit my.bsu.edu and enter your Ball State username and password. Click on SSB—Self Service Banner, then on the Student menu, Registration, and Full Detail Schedule. Look for the course you you are checking to view your position on the list.

After I have been notified and time has expired for me to register for a waitlisted course, will the course still be on my schedule?

No. Once the 24 hours has expired, the course is automatically dropped from your schedule.

Is there a shopping cart in the registration system?
The shopping cart for main-campus courses used in the university's legacy registration system is not present in the current system. We urge you to meet with your advisor and consult the course catalog to determine your program requirements, as you have done in past years. Then, using the new system, search the available course offerings and keep a list of the course reference numbers (CRNs) for sections in which you wish to enroll. This will allow you to sign up quickly when registration begins.
