Construction work continues on our geothermal energy project, the largest project of its kind in the country. In 2010, we received national and state awards for the project. The American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment recognized Ball State as the top doctorate-granting university in the nation with the Second Nature Climate Leadership Award. And the Hoosier Environmental Council recognized Ball State as the Technology Innovator of the Year.
In the fall 2011, we will complete Phase One, shutting down the first two coal-fired boilers. We will save more than $1 million annually through operational efficiencies, demonstrating our commitment to our fiscal and environmental responsibilities. Completing Phase Two will enable us to double our annual savings and reduce our carbon footprint by nearly half.
Goal 4, Objective E: By 2012, complete renewal of the Central Utility Plant.
