Ambitious Gifts for Students

In 2004, President Jo Ann M. Gora declined an expensive and lavish inauguration. Instead she redirected the funds into the Inauguration Scholarships and announced the recipients with Governor Mitch Daniels in the State House Rotunda. Continuing a tradition of student- focused celebration, our campaign will conclude in similar fashion. Generous gifts from alumni and friends have afforded us the opportunity to create the Bold Celebration Scholarship Challenge.

Our initial goal was to select 25 of the nation’s brightest students and invite them to become Bold Celebration Scholars in 2011. The scholars will receive $10,000 scholarships, renewable for four years. We have already surpassed our goal by more than twofold—we will offer scholarship opportunities to 55 students.

“High-ability students lead to high-end accomplishments,” says honors student Juliana Abercrombie, ’12, psychology and Spanish, a National Hispanic Scholar and 2008 Bold Scholarship Recipient. “Ball State goes above and beyond to ensure that students are given every opportunity to succeed in school and beyond.”

Goal 1, Supporting Objective A: By 2012, achieve 10 percent of freshman enrollment participating in the Honors College.

Capital Campaign Goal: Investing in the Intellectually Curious, $40 million for new scholarships.
