School Spirit Funds Scholarships

Ball State football fans had a lot to get exited about in 2008. The team was undefeated on the regular season (12-0), was ranked in the top 15 of the Bowl Championship Series standings, won the MAC West title, and earned a berth in a bowl game for the second straight year.

Fans showed their spirit in record numbers as well. The Student Foundation sold more “Chirp! Chirp!” football spirit shirts than ever before (nearly 5,000). Even alumnus David Letterman had one of the shirts on his late night talk show.

“This has been very exciting for us,” says Student Foundation President Amanda Rybarczyk, “not only because of the national publicity but also because the excitement and enthusiasm has carried over to our other scholarship activities.”

The Student Foundation is a student-run organization that raises money for scholarships. Thanks to the success of this year’s T-shirt and ornament sales, the organization may be able to give nearly $20,000 to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to be used for students in need.

Now that’s something to chirp about.
